ASSESSORS OF JACKSON COUNTY

 

The office now known as Assessor was termed the Commissioner of Revenue prior to West Virginia becoming a state on June 20, 1863. From 1873 to 1910 the county was split into Northern and Southern districts, with an Assessor elected to serve each district. Below are the names of each Assessor and their dates of service.

*W. A. "Bill" Riggs, of Sandyville, served longer than any other person, nearly 40 years, which is a record for county office holders in Jackson County.

**On July 3, 1984, the Jackson County Commission appointed Clifford F.Kerwood to complete the unexpired term of W.A. Riggs, which ended January 1, 1985.
